Lucchetta Marcello’s winery was founded in 1956 by himself,

coming from a family of old viticultural tradition. He sold his father vineyard in Pieve di Soligo, and bought a small country cottage on Conegliano’s hills, in Calpena street. The term “Calpena” does not define only a street but most of all a zone, that extends from little after Mazzini’s graded schools, to finish near Gai’s zone (municipality of San Vendemiano, near Castello Roganzuolo’s border line). In the past times this place was owned by various aristocratic families. Those villas are located on the first hill of that zone (the today’s Monticella), in front of the plains. On their back, the hills continues until the Prealpi. Those hills were covered most of all by vineyards, and in part by olive trees (the name “Ogliano”, given to a small outlying ward of Conegliano, is not a case because of its olive trees-growing tradition, appreciated in the past times by the romans too).Nowadays the olive-trees are almost disappeared, due to the hard frost of 1709, but the vineyards remained and are cultivated with success. Talking to the people of this place, mainly with the elderly, you can still hear the echoes of an historical and cultural identity; they friendly call it “le Calpene” and fiercely tell their story of farmers, speaks about titled lineages, about this land, hard to farm, that however can produce, especially in the vineyards, all its capacity of high quality. So Marcello Lucchetta bought fist in Calpena some hectares on an hilltop, fascinated by the fact that the aristocratic familiy that owned that land as well as many others, wanted to have for his own use that hill’s products. It was to hard-work, but the vine was well-sold. There wasn’t yet the “D.O.C.” signature, but Conegliano’s was (and is still) very famous; already in 1431 the Venetian Doge Fran-cesco Foscari wrote to Conegliano’s Podestà Stefano Errizzo, ensuring that was sent the usual wagon of this good, excellent indeed wine of this hills. In the 70’s was founded the “Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOC” and in the 90’s the “Colli of Conegliano” one, because it was noticed that were disappearing from those sunny hills many vari-eties that contributed to the viticulture history of Conegliano. Those varieties are: Marzemino, Incro-cio Manzoni 6.0.13 and 2.15, Chardonnay, Pinot bianco, Sauvignon, the various Cabernet and Merlot. But we can mention many others like Verdiso, Bianchetta, Perera and Boschera, as varieated was Conegliano’s vineyard.Meanwhile Lucchetta Marcello’s farm growed bigger, other neighbouring lands were drew in, the old vineyards were renewed and the cellar enlarged going inside in part into the hill, using the soil as an efficient thermic insulator. structure. All this has permitted to get the actual corporate
